LOWELL, Mass. --- Both Jim Calhoun and John Calipari insist their alleged feud is well behind them.
"He and I laughed about it before (Friday night's) game," Calipari said. "He said, 'What was it, 20 years ago?' I said, 'I don't even know.'"
A new rift could soon come between them, however, in the form of Tyreke Evans. The 6-foot-4 senior from American Christian (Pa.) School is the No.2-rated senior shooting guard in the nation, according to Scout.com. He's also yet to declare where he'll be playing next year. UConn and Memphis are among the six schools that have made his final list.
Evans was on his way to this weekend’s National Prep Showcase at UMass-Lowell on Friday night, so he didn’t get a chance to watch the UConn-Memphis game on espn2. His brother, Eric, went to the game at Madison Square Garden.
"He said Memphis looked pretty good, nobody could stop them when they were in their offense," Evans said on Saturday. "He said UConn looked pretty good, too, A.J. Price looked pretty good. But Memphis had more scoring power.”
Evans promises he had no rooting interest in the game, but likes to see his suitors play each other.
"It makes me see what they do, how they do. When they play each other, it's a chance to see both teams I’m looking at," said Evans, who only saw highlights of Friday's game.
Evans has pared his list down to UConn, Memphis, Louisville, Texas, Villanova and Seton Hall. He has already visited all of the schools but Memphis, but intends to do that some time within the next few weeks. He’ll also visit Louisville for a second time (his first visit was last year). Evans visited UConn back in mid-September.
He may make his decision after visiting Lousiville and Memphis, but also might hold off until the spring signing period.
“Everything’s going well,” Evans said after putting up 32 points, six steals and five assists in an 89-85 win over Winchendon School. “I’m trying to be a leader, doing the right things, making my teammates better. I’m averaging 35 points per game, trying to make my last year in high school a fun year.”
