A Canadian Husky?
UConn has its sights set on a new recruit -- 6-foot-10 JUCO center Jamie Vanderbeken of Belleville, Canada. Vanderbeken is in his second year at Tyler Junior College in Texas.
The Huskies view Vanderbeken as a target, particularly if Hasheem Thabeet decides to go to the NBA. But Vanderbeken won't be the shot-blocking force that Thabeet is. Rather, he's a skilled offensive player who can step out and shoot the 3-pointer.
UConn hopes to get Vanderbeken to Storrs on a visit the weekend after the Final Four (April 12-13). The following weekend, Ater Majok is expected to make an official visit to UConn after playing in a tournament in Kentucky. Majok is a 6-foot-9 forward with about a 7-foot-4 wingspan.
Finally, UConn commit Scottie Haralson is trying to make his official visit to Storrs this upcoming weekend.
