STORRS – Thaddeus Ferguson was arrested and charged at Rockville Superior Court last Friday in his connection with the theft of four laptop computers in June, 2005, which led to the arrest and suspension of two University of Connecticut basketball players last season.
Ferguson was charged with four counts of larceny after three separate warrants for his arrest were issued from UConn Police Headquarters. He posted bond for all charges at Rockville Superior Court. Bond was set for a total of $60,000 from the three warrants.
His original court date Thursday was continued until Feb. 13, the defendant’s birthday.
Ferguson, 20, has been linked to the thefts that led to the arrests of Marcus Williams and A.J. Price, who were both charged with the same four felony counts in connection with three burglaries at the Charter Oak Suites dormitory complex on June 9 and 14, 2005. Both Williams and Price were suspended last season by UConn coach Jim Calhoun; Williams for the first semester and Price for the season.
Williams, now with the NBA’s New Jersey Nets, was granted accelerated rehabilitation after the charges were reduced and performed 400 hours of community service. Price, now a sophomore guard at UConn, received accelerated rehabilitation as well after the reduction.
According to the Rockville Superior Court clerk’s office, Ferguson is referred to as Williams’ cousin in the case file and in several affidavits. In the UConn Police Department’s arrest log, Ferguson, now a New York City resident, was arrested at Brooklyn Criminal Court and picked up at the courthouse after extradition was waived.
According to the arrest log, Ferguson was then transported to UConn Police Headquarters and processed on four counts of larceny in the third degree, stemming from two separate incidents on June 9 and 14, 2005, and for which the arrest warrants were applied.
He was later processed at Rockville Superior Court and released on bond, according to the clerk’s office.

Here are some extra notes that did not make it into the print edition.
NOTES: Gavin Edwards has not played in the last six games, but UConn coach Jim Calhoun offered praise of the 6-foot-9 freshman forward who just turned 18 two weeks ago. “He just needs assertiveness and he’s 18. ... He also needs to add 10 pounds of muscle because of all those guys up front, he’s the most gifted.” … Calhoun on Jerome Dyson’s injury Wednesday night: “Ninety percent of the players we’ve had wouldn’t have come back from that.”
