UConn Big East opponents announced

The Big East broke down the matchups for its men's basketball teams Friday to fill each 18-game conference schedule.

The University of Connecticut will play home-and-home dates with Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Providence. The 2007-08 season marks a return to the 18-game league schedule for the Big East that was previously used from 1991-92 through 1998-99. Each of the 16 Big East teams will play three opponents twice during the season and the other 12 schools once. A repeat series in 2007-08 may or may not be a repeat series next season.

Dates and times of all conference games, as well as the remainder of the UConn schedule, will be released at a later date along with home-game sites (Hartford or Storrs).

UConn will also open the season in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer with an opening-round four-team regional at Gampel Pavilion on Nov. 7-8. Four regional winners will advance to a final round at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Nov. 15-16.
The Huskies will also play Gonzaga on Dec. 1 at the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston and host Quinnipiac at the Hartford Civic Center on Dec. 16.

Hall of Fame Challenge particulars

A few particulars were announced by the University of Connecticut on Tuesday morning regarding the 2007 Hall of Fame Challenge.

- The one-day doubleheader will be played at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston on Dec. 1.

- ESPN will televise the event nationally. Connecticut-Gonzaga will be televised on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. followed by Boston College-Providence at 6 p.m. on ESPN Classic.

- For UConn, the game will serve as the first of a neutral-neutral series with Gonzaga. In December, 2008, the Huskies will play the Bulldogs at Key Arena in Seattle.

- Boston College and Providence were in the midst of a home-and-home series, the first since the Eagles moved to the Atlantic Coast Conference. Both teams agreed to suspend the series a year to play in the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge.

- Tickets for the doubleheader go on sale Sept. 4 at all Ticketmaster locations as well as Ticketmaster.com. Each school will have tickets available to its students, boosters and alumni in August.
